Crow House

The Crow is often called Messenger of the Gods and Bringer of Light, and there is a wonderful Inuit myth the tells of Crow bringing daylight to the dark lands of the midnight sun when the world was still new.

So much has been written about the Shaman-like qualities of Crow. In Jamie Sams’ Medicine Cards, Crow knows the unknowable mysteries of creation and is the keeper of all sacred law and
an omen of change. Look deep into Crow’s eye and you will find the gateway to the supernatural.

My original Crow House is in graphite, gesso and pastel on archival paper, and is framed in black painted oak with a double mount with glass. The framed picture measures 126x95cms.

Daffyd’s Sea Lily

Dafydd ap Gwilym was a 14th Century Welsh Poet who called the Seagull the Sea Lily in a love poem to one of his many sweethearts. He is described as a “daring and original poet who linked traditional bardic poetry with the (then) current European fashion of courtly love.”* Sadly he died quite young, most probably of the Black Death.

Barn Owl

The symbol of wisdom, and often associated with clairvoyance and magic, the night-time is Owl’s domaine. Hunting its prey silently, it can see what others can’t. Owl’s ability to turn its head through almost 360 degrees gives Owl its supernatural qualities in some cultures. Owl is one of the few birds to be found in prehistoric cave paintings like the one at Chauvet in France.

The original is pastel on A1 canvas.

They are of course also known for collecting shiny objects to put in their nests.
