Mineral stones have always been used in various cultures for their benefits to our physical and psychological well-being. The original crystal skulls were said to be made out of crystal quartz or rock crystal. I have chosen to call the paintings after the various kinds of quartz crystal only as a means of identifying each one. I have tried to approximately match the stones to the paintings however they are not meant to be representative of their names.
Aventurine comes in orange, brown, yellow, blue and grey, but the most common colour is green, the majority of which comes from India. The name derives from the Italian “a ventura” meaning “by chance”, alluding to the lucky discovery of aventurine glass during the 18th Century.
