Dafydd ap Gwilym was a 14th Century Welsh Poet who called the Seagull the Sea Lily in a love poem to one of his many sweethearts. He is described as a “daring and original poet who linked traditional bardic poetry with the current European fashion of courtly love.”* He died quite young, most probably of the Black Death.
