Smoke & Mirrors

Smoke & Mirrors

We live in strange times. Nothing is quite the same any more. Everything we used to believe in and trust now seems in question. We doubt what we are being told and are unsure where the truth lies. Words are constantly subject to spin. Loyalties are in question and government listen to lobbyists, take advice from foreign banks and billionaires and seem more removed from us than ever. The world seems to be run by huge corporations who make vast amounts of money in profit every year and never seem accountable.

In response, I have started a collection of paintings called Smoke & Mirrors.

“Following the Science” – Restraint Stress

“Restraint stress is a method used to induce physiological responses in an animal by restricting its free movement. An attractive feature of restraint stress is that it is primarily a psychological stressor, i.e., the physical discomfort induced by restraint is intentionally secondary to the cognitive appraisal of the organism’s inability to gain free movement. The popularity of this stressor technique is attributable to its relatively low cost and technical requirements. Restraint stress is also amenable to parametric manipulation, such as duration of restraint, number of restraint sessions, time between restraint sessions, and food intake or deprivation prior to restraint.’ R.J.
